The Best Christmas Gifts For Geeks!

I am very excited to be posting this article; mainly, because being a ‘geek’ has lead me to a lot of great opportunities over the years, such as, making new friends, finding new hobbies, and even meeting career goals. Seriously, I started my own blogging business thanks to the many connections I have with online gurus. Yes, that’s right. I’m a geek! As is my husband, my best friend and my brother. And all four of us are very proud of this fact, for as I just mentioned above, having a wonky hobby can lead to life-changing opportunities, as well as adding a great amount of joy to your (or someone’s) life. The pitfall (or downside) to being a committed geek however, is that some family members, co-workers and friends who are not geeks themselves, have difficulty trying to figure out what gifts to pick-out for Christmas and Birthdays. Some people tare the hair-out over it, when there is really no need too. For like I’ve been saying throughout this blog- Christmas is not about the gifts people receive, it’s about spending time with those we love. And anyone will be thrilled that you thought of them at all. But if your heart is set on getting some ‘geeky’ gift ideas for the holiday season, I am more than happy to help! In fact, I have comprised a list (I know, huge shock right?) on The Best Christmas Gifts for Geeks!

But before we dive in, let’s have a quick discussion about the different types of Geek Categories out there.

The Different Types of Geek Categories:

  • Fantasy. Fantasy lovers are those who adore both creatures and universes that are fictional, and often read and watch stories centered in this Genre, such as, ©The Hobbit, ©The Lord of the Rings, ©Harry Potter, ©The Adventures of Merlin and other similar works of fiction. Basically, if you know someone who speaks highly of dragons, magic, fairies and dwarves- then you know a fantasy geek! (I personally, fall into this category 😉 )

  • Science Fiction. Those who love science fiction are often devoted to thoughts of the future and intelligent life in outer space. Spaceships, advanced (future) technologies and star constellations will often be lively topics of conversation with Sci-Fi lovers, and if you hear talks of TV Shows such as, ©Doctor Who, ©Star Trek or ©Stargate– then there is no doubt that you know a Sci-Fi Geek! (My brother falls under this category).

  • Math. Yep, there are math lovers out there! Often math geeks are either Engineers or teachers who work in the field of advanced mathematics such as, Algebra, calculus, combinatorics, logic. Number theory, and mathematical physics. If you have someone close to you that has helped you with your math schoolwork, or who likes to teach others about advanced math problems on a regular basis, whether they are interested or not- than you probably know a math geek! Math geeks often fall into the Sci-Fi category as well 🙂

  • Tech.Techno geeks are those who love (and often work) with computers, printers, and sound systems. Most people who fall under this category often go into computer science, and spend much of their down-time creating their own computers or disassembling old ones to compare the old technology with the new. Animatronics is also a common interest to techno lovers. Animatronics in the creation and workings of animal (or sometimes human) like robots that are often gigantic in size and are used in film creation and amusement parks. If you know someone who does (or speaks of) any of these things than you know a techno geek!

  • Gaming. This is a category that almost everyone falls under at some point or another. Whether it is board gaming, role play, video games or all of the above- it falls under the gamer title. Especially, when individuals participate in these activities regularly. Signs of a dedicated gamer are those who spend long periods of time using gaming consoles like the ©Xbox One, or the ©PS4, and frequently get excited whenever a new game or console product comes into creation. My husband is a HUGE gamer and speaks of different games and gaming characters every single day. 🙂

There are a lot more categories out there, but the five I just listed are the most common, and should be kept in mind when you are looking for gift ideas. As you read the list more carefully, you will probably realise that you fall under one or even two of these groups yourself. And that’s awesome! I am a proud geek too, and wouldn’t give it up for anything in the world. Being a ‘geek’ is part of who I am!

Anyway, you are investigating this page because you want to see the best Christmas Gift ideas for bookworms like me, so let’s get on with the list shall we?

  1. Hi Darc’ie,
Didn’t realize there were so many different areas of geeks. Does writing count?
If writing counts, I to am a geek, too.
Loved your post. Learned a great deal about you and about being a geek.
If writing counts as geekness, then fountain pens could be included.
    Just an observation only.
    Thanks for an excellent article.

    1. Hello Howard!
It is nice to hear from you again. In regards to your questions, writing could be a category if you are REALLY passionate about it, and spend a great deal of time collecting fountain pens and using them to write calligraphy cards and the like. 🙂
There are a great deal of other ‘geek’ passions out there, and I hope to post more of them soon- I will certainly keep fountain pens in mind!

      Thank you for the suggestion.

      Sincerely yours,

  2. I really enjoyed this article and your writing style is refreshing. You and your husband sound like people me and my husband would be friends with. In fact we have friends who fit into all the categories you mentioned. We fit into the science fiction one ourselves. You’ve given me so many good ideas for Christmas gifts I’m going to start my shopping earlier than ever. I love Christmas too and your website really put me in the Christmas mood. Just have to get from April to November and then it’s go time!

    1. Hi Barbra!

Thank you so much for your comment and kind words. I find my writing style to be a bit cutesey, but I want people to know that there is a person behind the website- so I guess it works. 🙂

I would love to meet you and your husband someday, both me and my partner fall into the Fantasy, Science Fiction and Game categories- our home is filled with so much geek stuff! I think the four of us would have a blast!

  3. This was entertaining. Thanks Darc’ie for recommending some of the best christmas gifts for geeks. I was looking for a gift for my next visit to my geeky friend. I found that ©Star Trek communicator will totally blow him away when I use it in front of him and then I’ll give him his. Yeah, that’s right… I’ll get one too. That’s just an awesome gift to give and receive. Hey! but it’s all about the time my friend and I will spend together… with cool trek communicators. 😉

    1. HA! That’s a fabulous idea Eddie! A little teasing between buddies is always fun, and I can just imagine the expression on his face when he receives his own communicator! You guys will have such a blast geeking things up with that device!

My brother is a ©Star Trek fan and loves all the communicator products that come out. I’m thinking of buying one for him this year 🙂

My husband got me a ©TARDIS statue last Christmas, and he also got one for his friend. He had fun torturing me the week before Christmas by constantly telling me how much his friend would love it- than he surprised me with my own! Ah, gift shenanigans…

Thanks so much for your comment. Hope to hear from you again soon.

      Sincerely yours,

  4. Hello, I really appreciate your time and effort on writing about gifts for geeks.

From your post it’s obvious that I fall into the science fiction and fantasy geek category. I love watching science fiction and fantasy movies like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, etc.

These gift ideas are pretty cool, I especially like the Hedwig mug and the kneeling winter fairy. Christmas all year round is exactly the type of thing that makes my bacon sizzle. thanks for the gift ideas, might just get me one of those.

    1. Hello there Son!

You sound like a person after my own heart. I adore ©The Lord of the Rings and ©Narnia in both film and book form. You have a real eye for choosing gifts too I see- the owl mug and the fairy are both amazing options for gifts. If you get one of them for yourself let me know! I would love to hear about your experience with those products!

Hope to hear from you again soon.
